Lecoq - Characters out of water (2)

 Depaisement?

This week we discover the unseen side of our characters, and to stay there and be bigger.

Monday:

We start with rhythm with Frederick in the grande salle. Temps et contra-temps, et double-temps. Then we applied that to the character's walk, when do we change the rhythm? Perhaps in the discovery of a new space. Or perhaps after a reaction, we choose a different rhythm. We also attempt playing with someone on the street - how do we attempt to squeeze past each other, and game the tempo? A situation where we are buying vegetables could be fun to play too.

With Eric, it was another entretien where we saw a few characters being provoked out of their comfort zone. Staying in our physical choice is super difficult when we're fish out of water. When we laugh because of a situation, how do we continue to laugh as the character, rather than the actor?

In LEM, we re-found materials - carton, elastic band, and a huge plastic sheet. For warm up, we manipulated another person with different levels of tension. While it was interesting to wave the material around and make waves, we were interested in the tension the materials hold. It was also interesting to test their limits - how close can we go before we break the form? With the big sheet, we found this epic journey where a couple of us took two corners and ran it high above the rest of the sheet. The rest of the sheet was slowly but surely lifted off the ground, then swung in to fill the void of space, all the way to the other side, and the force of the backlash made it come back again. Then we watched as the plastic settled, light glinting off every mini-deflation. For the finale, we attempted to move a text/story from 'The Elephant Vanishes' with our choice of material - we chose the carton.
