Lecoq - Characters quiproquos (3)
Autocour this week is inspired by Theatre de l'echange libre as written by Fedo - 10 characters in a space that moves quickly. Gonna be real fun!
Monday
With Francois in movement we began with the normal chauffage of the body, and then entering into the body, movement and rhythm of our 2nd and 3rd personalities. Once we got comfortable with that, we got into the business of changing costumes. Then we set up a paravent, and did the thing where we walked in as one character and out with the other. Buttons are definitely not good.
With Eric in improvisation, the theme was the CHASE - repeated many times through the day. First, we did it solo, and then in pairs. It became complicated with 4 characters in the space, but we began to see the time and countertempos that could exist in the space, and how to play spatially. Eric's note to me was to let loose and play more, which mirrored Yasuyo's note in the past week. So yeah, I need to play more. For some reason, play was not the first thing on my mind in the third trimester.
In LEM, we began moving our big forms (the one inspired by the form created by us inspired by our scenography). I had been blocked a little - exploring my experience with covid had sort of just pushed me to create stuff that looked oddly like stethoscopes and hospital ward structures. So when Pascal suggested that my structures looked like they had closures and openings, it led me in a new direction that I was quite enthusiastic in. So my form had plenty of surprises and change in directions - my note was to get obsessed with it and create an even bigger one.
Tuesday
With Eric in movement, we went from 2nd character to neutral to 3rd character, and then back. Then we skipped neutral and jumped (literally) from one to the other. We also did a little improv where the two characters were doing separate actions, and we moved from one to the other without destroying the continuity. Lastly we had a paravent, and we entered and exit with different rhythms, levels, and emotions. Of course, we also got to fight with ourselves.
Yasuyo created a grand space with Francois, filled with small paravents and big ones, to create the backdrop of a hotel. There were plenty of entrances and exits to the lobby, and we got to see 3 people (6 characters) play in it. For 6 characters, 2 people working at the hotel was more than enough. Not only do we have to precise the different characters, we needed to think about how the space would move (how we can move [in] the space), and how we can have different rhythms of people in the space. Grand thoughts for autocour.
Wednesday
Acrobatics!
Anne took us through a situation in a bureau where we had to find an event and a situation and find good rhythms.
Thursday
With Anne, we discovered how we could enter and exit the paravent and pretend there was someone behind. Or enter and exit with different emotions, to give the impression that something happened. We have to work on our articulation of le jeu. We come out (find a distance), discover an emotion for ourselves, look back at the paravent to play with the space behind, then find an action.
With Paola in improvisation, the situation was thanksgiving with 5 actors. But with such complex relationships, most of us were just in the space busy saying hi to each other. Il faut trouvee le justess de jeu.
Friday
We spent most of the day marking our spots out for the grand autocour - it would be our last formal one. What wonderful work. There were plenty of clown moments.
Saturday
Anne took us through a quick tour of the 20 movements - we'll show them on the last day. We have to end where we start, there is no histoire, and we must finish each movement completely before we transition, but we're completely free to personalize the transition.
Anne also gave us a quick introduction to the platform - a chase in the forest. We saw how we could use someone else as terrain.
Eric took us through the rest of the phrase of the bateau. Then we did it in twos, in complimentary fashion to find le jeu.
After creating the les Enquete groups (I'm studying Velos), Paola got us to work on the platform - 5 actors, 3 places, 3 actions, 1 crime - the crime.
